Set in Newham, east London, Jess is a single mother barely making ends meet with when first her landlord decides to sell up, then she loses her job.
This is a novel as uplifting as it is terrifying at how close so many families are to being made homeless. I laughed as often as I was enraged at a system that seems set up to fail.
